Overcoming Powerlessness, Faithlessness, and Hopelessness

First and foremost, no believer is powerless, faithless, or hopeless. These conditions are byproducts of spiritual insensitivity. Spiritual insensitivity acts as a circuit breaker, installed either knowingly or unknowingly in the spiritual system of a believer due to the tolerance of laziness in the things of the Spirit.

As Romans 12:11-12 (AMP) encourages us:

“Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord. Rejoice and exult in hope; be steadfast and patient in suffering and tribulation; be constant in prayer.”

The overwhelming discouragement that easily paralyzes you will dissipate into thin air. Your spiritual power will flow regularly and consistently, reinforcing your hope and strengthening your faith. Engage in the renewal of your strength through fervent prayer, renew your mind by learning the truth in Christ Jesus, and faithfully serve in ministry.

Renewing Spiritual Power

Power is renewed like energy. It is made available in a specific portion, place, and position for easy use through heartfelt, continuous prayer. The feeling of powerlessness will vanish immediately when you engage in prayer. As you pray in the Spirit regularly, you become more sensitive to the exceeding greatness of God’s power within you.

As James 5:16 (AMP) reminds us:

“Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].”

Prayer is the guaranteed place where God’s power flows freely.

Shattering Hopelessness

Hopelessness dissolves when we understand and embrace the hope of our calling. Christ in us is the hope of glory, our heavenly hope.

As 1 Peter 1:3-5 (NKJV) declares:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Paul’s prayer for the saints is that their eyes of understanding may be enlightened to see and know the hope of their calling (Ephesians 1:18). Many experience hopelessness because they have not fully acknowledged their eternal, heavenly hope. This is the hope that purifies the believer, guarding them against despair.

As 1 John 3:1-3 (AMP) reminds us:

“See what [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him. Beloved, we are [even here and] now God’s children; it is not yet disclosed (made clear) what we shall be [hereafter], but we know that when He comes and is manifested, we shall [as God’s children] resemble and be like Him, for we shall see Him just as He [really] is. And everyone who has this hope [resting] on Him cleanses (purifies) himself just as He is pure (chaste, undefiled, guiltless).

This hope prevents hopelessness from taking root in our hearts.

Paul wrote that if we live on earth without this hope, we are of all people most miserable. A child of God who lacks this hope should be pitied, for any hope they have that is not rooted in Christ is, in reality, a form of hopelessness.

As 1 Corinthians 15:19 (NKJV) states:

“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.”

When you boast in your heavenly hope, the very trials that make others hopeless become your platform for rejoicing. This rekindles and sustains your hope, leaving no room for hopelessness.

As Romans 5:2-5 (AMP) declares:

“Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.”

Faithlessness retreats in the face of spiritual activity. You build up yourself in your most holy faith through praying in the Spirit. Remember, we are all gifted with like precious faith. However, this faith deposit in a believer can go unnoticed due to spiritual laziness. Fear may overshadow its operation because of ignorance and a lack of diligence in understanding God’s revelation knowledge. Instead of being a time for mighty expressions of faith, troubles can become a place of discouragement and disillusionment.

1 Peter 1:5-7 (NKJV):

“Who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

The genuineness of faith is revealed in its trials. Faithlessness is proof that your faith has faltered during trials or that fear has overshadowed it. Let your faith stand and endure through troubles. As you gain a precise understanding of the blessings in Christ, sharing your faith will become powerful. Faith will no longer be an in-and-out experience but will continuously grow from faith to faith.

As you align yourself with the miraculous workings within you, you will be continually filled with tremendous power, remaining neither hopeless nor faithless.

As Colossians 1:29 (AMP) says:

“For this I labor [unto weariness], striving with all the superhuman energy which He so mightily enkindles and works within me.”

I call you blessed.
