In Hebrew, the word shalom encapsulates a profound belief in God’s comprehensive well-being and welfare. It implies that the peace of God ensures everything in one’s life is intact—nothing broken and nothing missing. This concept of shalom expresses unending prosperity, unfailing safety, and assured welfare provided by God.
When Hebrews greet each other, they inquire about their peace with a deep sense of affirmation: nothing is broken and nothing is missing. This greeting, mah shlomcha (for men) or mah shlomech (for women), essentially means, “How is your peace?” This understanding of peace is rooted in the belief that God Himself is their peace.
If the saints of God truly understand that God is their peace, they will experience His peace in their lives.
Jesus is your peace, and He has given you a peace that surpasses all understanding. Even if your circumstances seem challenging, Jesus remains your peace. Do not let your heart be troubled. Instead, transform your anxiety into prayer and supplication, and His peace will guard your heart and mind.
Read Philippians 4:6-7:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Jesus’ response to the storm provides a lesson on how to handle life’s storms. While His disciples were overwhelmed with anxiety, Jesus was at peace, sleeping on a pillow at the stern of the boat. We should aim for the peace of God to keep our hearts and minds free from fear and despair. His Word is His presence within us. Keep His Word in your heart and mind, attending to it, thinking on it, and allowing it to bring you peace.
Read Proverbs 4:20-23:
“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
When the disciples woke Jesus out of fear and anxiety, He spoke peace to the storm. Similarly, you should allow the Word of the Lord within you to speak peace into your life. Prophesy peace, letting the peace of God calm any storm you face.
Read Mark 4:35-39:
“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
I speak peace to your heart, to your affairs, to your body, and to your home. No storm will cut short your progress or hinder your journey. To any storm in your life, I say, “Peace, be still.”
May the God of peace grant you peace always by all means, and may He quickly crush Satan under your feet. It is well with you and with all that concerns you. You shall live a peaceful and quiet life, and God will show you His marvelous kindness in this city.
I call you blessed.
